============================================================= FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Cupertino, CA, March 31, 2008 Trailblazer Race on September 28, 2008 to Benefit Friends of Stevens Creek Trail The 14th Annual Trailblazer Race and Trail Walk will be held on Stevens Creek Trail in Mountain View on Sunday, September 28, at 8:30 A.M. The race typically draws over 1,000 participants and volunteers. Proceeds benefit the Friends of Stevens Creek Trail and Wildlife Corridor, the only organization dedicated to extending Stevens Creek Trail and wildlife corridor from the bay at Shoreline Park in Mountain View to the hills above Cupertino, connecting to mountain trails going on to the Pacific coast. The Trailblazer is a morning of fun, healthful activities for the whole family. The 5K Trail Walk is scenic and mostly level for walking. The 10K & 5K USATF certified races are scenic, fast and flat running courses. Free children's races follow on grass and sidewalk. All Events start and finish alongside Stevens Creek Trail at 1065 La Avenida Avenue, off Shoreline Blvd by Highway 101. This is the Mountain View campus of Microsoft Corporation, the host and presenting sponsor. All racers quickly head north on Stevens Creek Trail. The 10K Race circles most of Shoreline Park, while the 5K Race enters the park and turns back. Walkers go south on the trail to Evelyn Avenue and return. Free food, water, and entertainment are provided. A drawing for valuable prizes is held for registered participants who stay after. Online registration and mail-in forms are at www.stevenscreektrail.org. Advance registration fees are $25 for Adults to Race, $15 for Adults on the Trail Walk, and $10 for Youths 19 & under to Race or Walk. Advance paid registration must be post-marked by September 8 or paid and completed on-line by 8am September 26. Race Day fees are $30, $20, and $15, respectively. Registered participants receive a natural color T-shirt with the new Trailblazer Hawk logo. Volunteers receive a free shirt if registered in advance. Publicity and raffle prizes are needed! The Friends of Stevens Creek Trail is the only organization dedicated to extending Stevens Creek Trail and wildlife corridor from San Francisco Bay to the Santa Cruz Mountains, connecting to mountain trails reaching on to the Pacific. Begun in 1993, Stevens Creek Trail currently extends over four miles in Mountain View from the bay lands at Shoreline Park to El Camino Real. Construction is underway to continue the trail to the Mountain View - Los Altos border. Cupertino will soon begin its own section of trail, and Los Altos is studying possible routes. Sunnyvale is considering action on trail planning. The Friends is a 501(C)3 nonprofit that organizes public and private trail support, trail and creek clean-ups, and education programs. Individual cities along Stevens Creek actually build the trail, but it takes many years of preparation and work behind the scenes to achieve that. Increasing public awareness, support, and consensus must come first, which is what the Friends does.
