. thought this might interest some people on the list.

I think that the trail being constructed will ulimately be the link between
the upper end of Stevens Creek Blvd (west of Foothill) into San Antonio Park.
The closest link to the park presently is Cristo Rey Drive over by the 280
interchange with Foothill.  There is a non-motor vehicle entrance under 280 in
one or two locations as well.

Dear Trail Supporters and Volunteers,

Great News! Trail construction to begin in Cupertino!
Please read the email below from Santa Clara County Trail Planner, Kelly
Gibson for an update and details regarding volunteer opportunities.

The County needs volunteers to help build a section of Stevens Creek Trail
near Rancho San Antonio. A Sweco trail doser will start the rough trail
work on Tuesday, May 20th.

On June 14th at 7.00 AM the County Parks Volunteer Crew Leads will meet and
offer trailing to other volunteers who wish to be crew leaders. (Meeting
place TBA).
Greg Bringelson is coordinating this training and can be reached at
408-629-9347 or Greg.Bringelson@mail.PRK.CO.Santa-Clara.CA.US

If you just wish to volunteer as part of a trail work day team please
contact County Parks Volunteer Coordinator, Beeny Sander at 408-355-2254 or
Beeny.Sander@mail.PRK.CO.Santa-Clara.CA.US

This is a great opportunity to get involved and see the fruits of your

labors for all to enjoy. Families are encouraged to volunteer (anyone under
12 years must have direct supervision, and anyone under 18 must have
written consent from their parents).

If you are interested in this exciting opportunity and fun experience
please contact Beeny ASAP. Don't forget to mention you heard about this
through the Friends of Stevens Creek Trail when you sign up!

Thanks,

>Hi Susie~
>This is such exciting news! Here is a recap of what we discussed on the
>phone earlier today to pass on to your email group for the Friends of
>Stevens Creek Trail:
>

>The County Parks Department plans to begin construction on the trail located
>on the former Diocese property (as identified in the Stevens Creek Trail
>Feasibility Study- Study Area A) in the next few weeks, once the land is
>officially transferred to County Parks ownership. Parks staff will do some
>of the prep work and initial trail construction, but we are looking for
>volunteers to help do some finishing work on the trail. This would entail
>using hand tools to work the soil, define the trail edges and grade, and
>tamp/pack it down, etc. Tools and basic training will be provided on the day
>of each event. Although we do not have specific dates for construction to
>begin, we anticipate the need for volunteer help on a few Saturdays in June
>and/or July.
>
>Anyone who is interested in being a volunteer should contact the County
>Parks Volunteer Coordinator, Beeny Sander. She will put their name on a list
>and contact them once we have specific work dates selected. Beeny can be

>reached at 355.2254 or beeny.sander@mail.prk.co.santa-clara.ca.us
>All necessary paperwork to become a volunteer will be provided on the day of
>the event(s).
>
>Please note that this land is still in private ownership, and even once it
>is transferred to County ownership, it is not open to the public until trail
>construction is complete and the Parks Department officially opens the
>trail. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
>
>If you have any additional questions regarding this project, please feel
>free to contact me.
