Stevens Creek Trail Virtual Tour
San Francisco Bay Salt Ponds

A long portion of the Trail runs along salt ponds which are now part of the Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge. These ponds adjoin the southern edge of San Francisco Bay.

(Learn more about plans to restore these wetlands areas at www.southbayrestoration.org.)

In the distance on a clear day, beyond the Dumbarton and San Mateo bridges across the Bay, you can see from here the skyline of San Francisco, about 30 miles away.

The East Bay hills are visible in the distance. Ground squirrels are a common sight along this portion of the Trail in Shoreline Park.
